A message from the Director

We have opened our new website in English to disseminate information of our clinical research center to all over the world.

● History

・1973 As part of the national intractable disease countermeasures, the existing hospital based allergy center was designated as the facility for allergy and rheumatology.
・1975 For the first time in a National Hospital in Japan, a clinical research department was established in Sagamihara National Hospital.
・2000 The clinical research center (5 departments, 15 laboratories, and their directors) was set up, and was entrusted with the role of a policy base hospital for immune disorders (allergy and rheumatology).
・2021 Renewal of departments and laboratories in the clinical research center was made.
As mentioned above, our clinical research center has played an important role in the past 50 years for Allergy and Rheumatology in Japan.

● Our mission

1. Clinical Research

Our clinical research targets allergies and rheumatic diseases, and we are conscious of the research content that will be returned to the clinic with patients. Its achievements are widely known not only in domestic specialists but also overseas, which is recognized as Center of Excellence by the World Allergy Organization. We have published numerous original papers in international journals, and number of review articles in specialized journals as well. Please see our center performance for details.

2. Education

As an individual training, we are actively educating doctors aiming to become specialized allergist and rheumatologists, and we accept several young doctors from universities and hospitals nationwide for that purpose. For doctors getting PhD degrees, we are also preparing a graduate course in cooperation with Juntendo University. As a central base hospital for allergies, we accept two weeks of comprehensive allergy training from base hospitals nationwide. We also provide intensive training in the area of allergies commissioned by the Japanese Society of Allergology.

● Future perspectives

In April 2021, we reorganized the organization in line with the current situation. In addition, as a central hospital for allergic diseases, we hold training, information dissemination, telephone consultation, and a liaison council as the secretariat. In the midst of headwinds against international exchange and clinical research during the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to continue to carry out clinical research while taking full advantage of our hospital.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the people concerned, patients, and people in each department of the hospital who have supported our clinical research center, and we ask for your continued support and guidance in the future.
